Create Processes and Lines (if needed). Since MaintSmart considers all aspects of any equipment maintenance operation it must also consider lost production time due to equipment failure. Production time could be any lost opportunity that may be quantified into additional wage expense due to a lengthened production schedule. This cost is allocated to the failed equipment item. Processes and Lines are also used to group equipment. Just as work areas associate equipment item(s) to a specific line. Why a maintenance program would want to know about manufacturing processes and lines? MaintSmart's creators understood that to properly identify the source of equipment problem you need to sometimes look beyond just the maintenance department's area of responsibility. By also looking at the "opportunity cost" on the non-maintenance side of your operation MaintSmart can quantify all costs associated with equipment breakdown. Opportunity cost could be lost wages of the production side due to an equipment failure. Processes may contain departments and are contiguous groups of dependant equipment items. For example in a commercial bakery a Process might be the Bread . This entire plant process is required to produce a loaf of bread. This Bread process might contain two lines (or 'departments' or any other grouping you need for that matter): the Bread Production line and the Bread Wrapping line. In the above example we used a manufacturing environment however you may name the various levels of the equipment hierarchy whatever you'd like and change them at any time. MaintSmart addresses ALL facets of any equipment maintenance operation. |
